To use this option, open Word application, go to ‘File’ in menu bar and select ‘Open document’. Then select the file that shows file permission error and click the drop down button next to ‘Open’ button in the window. Now, select Open and Repair option. This will fix certain issues with Word documents.

I now have a locked file (Word DOCX) that has remained locked for a few day. The funny thing is the user that locked it is me! I cannot edit, save, delete or anything. I have resorted to downloading an offline copy to do my work. Other complicating factors.

The file created by using the Save As option then encounters the same exact issue once it has been closed and is re-opened by the same user. It seems to be an issue with only Office documents as I could replicate this with a Word file but had no issue with a notepad file.
